Premium 2.31 / Free 4.28

Relevanssi Premium 2.31 and free 4.28 have very short changelog lists but are still big updates. In a move that was long overdue, we have redesigned the Relevanssi settings pages. We have also consolidated all Relevanssi admin pages under one sidebar menu item. User search log and admin search used to be under Dashboard and Relevanssi settings under Settings. Now all are under Relevanssi. We believe this will make using Relevanssi easier.

The new settings pages reduce the number of tabs and group things in a more sensible way. We have also added lots of instructions and guidelines in the settings pages.

We have also taken the opportunity to remove some unnecessary settings.

  • Keyword matching: It is no longer possible to set the keyword matching to “Partial words, if no whole word matches”. This was a confusing setting and in most cases, choosing either “Whole words” or “Partial words” is the correct choice. If you must use this setting, you can set the relevanssi_fuzzy option to sometimes.
  • Category exclusion and restriction: The settings for overall category exclusion and restriction are removed from the search settings. These were blanket settings that were rarely necessary and often caused hard-to-solve problems if accidentally enabled. If you need to do category exclusion and restriction, it’s best to use taxonomy queries.

Other changes

  • Built-in support for Document Library Pro above-documents search box. Relevanssi works well with Document Library Pro out of the box, but now also automatically takes over the search box that’s above document lists. Make sure you have the dlp_document post type indexed!
  • Support for Slim SEO “Hide from search results” feature.

2.31.1 / 4.28.1

  • There was an error that made it look like some searching settings were not saved, even though they were.

2.31.2 / 4.28.2

  • Debugging mode had a vulnerability where dangerous things could happen if the debugging mode was enabled and a malicious actor made someone click a link they shouldn’t. This has been fixed. Always keep debugging mode disabled unless Relevanssi support asks you to enable it, and turn it off once the problem has been solved.
  • Premium: Adjusting the number of excerpt snippets didn’t work.

2.31.3 / 4.28.3

  • New feature: More debugging information on the admin search page.
  • Minor fix: When Relevanssi does the automatic Did you mean? fallback search, the in-document highlighting now uses the corrected search term.
  • Minor fix: The automatic Did you mean? fallback lost search query terms that were correct.
  • Minor fix: Broken links in user search insights.
  • Minor fix: Polylang searches with multiple language filters did not work for taxonomy terms.
  • Minor fix: The search results breakdown can now include categories again.
  • Compatibility: The broken Document Library Pro compatibility features were removed.
